Our Food
“Tasty, Healthy, Locally Grown starts with Local”
Red-Meat products, grown by Livestock farmers, are known for their value as protein in our diets. The De Weterings are called “livestock” farmers because they raise beef and pigs for the food chain. Ontario, Canada is particularly well suited to grow and raise livestock as there is an abundant availability of land to grow food and easy access to the technology to store it over the winter. Barns protect our animals from the elements. South Western Ontario is a fairly moderate climate compared to other parts of the world, although some cold winter days and hot summer nights it would seem otherwise.
The beef diet consists of: For some reason modern mass food production has somehow taken the taste out of our food, the De Weterings sought to focus on flavour by first focusing on health. We all know we should eat foods that are good for us but, if it doesn’t taste good we don’t like it.
It starts with a farmer raising a healthy animal for butcher and then you need a good butcher to cut, package and in some cases further process the meat product you will cook to be served as part of your meal.
For every meal that serves red-meat, Terry Ann usually tries to incorporate all locally grown food – either grown in her own on farm garden and stored in her freezer and cold cellars or purchased locally. She is always up for the challenge of seeing how much food in the old fashioned meals she serves is only local Ontario produce supporting our local Ontario farmers.
